Starting point to Well Being

Body Cleansing

Hey Friends,

Since this is my first ever post on the blog, I had too many thoughts like it should be attractive, useful, suite a wide variety of readers etc etc., choosing a topic was like picking the best pearl from an endless ocean! However, when we don’t know from where to start “we have to start from where we are and make it a starting point!!”  I am involved in cleaning work at home now, so I thought I can start with a topic, “Cleansing our Body”. Coincidentally, this would be the apt topic because before we decorate our house we have to first clean it! Same thing applies to the body.
When it comes to cleansing, I have seen people usually talking about medicines and herbs like ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric, lemon etc., but often I feel a lot of us miss 2 important elements. Can you take a guess what are they? They are “Water” and “Air”!!

Let’s first discuss how water helps in detoxification.

No doubt herbs, juices help cleansing but it is like using cleaning solutions to clean things at home without using water. Irrespective of any amount of liquids, soaps or medicated solutions we use, we finally require water to clean the dirt as well as the cleaning agents we have used.  How we use water and take bath externally, we have to drink water and bathe internally.
Our body is designed in such a way that it detoxifies itself naturally with the help of lungs, kidneys and liver. The filtered toxins and waste materials are flushed out with the help of water in the form of Urine, Sweat and Stools.

Few highlights:

Ø  Kidneys eliminate toxins from blood, process water-soluble toxins from liver and eliminates through bladder. Hence daily sufficient water intake is crucial to ensure the toxins are flushed out of body through urine. If body won’t have sufficient water, instead of flushing metabolic waste out through the bladder, our body holds on to toxins.
Ø  Water is a natural lubricant that softens stool and promotes evacuation of the bowels.
Ø  Hot water increases blood flow and capillary action near the surface of the skin, causing faster release of toxins through sweat.

Water is the best thirst quenchers compared with those sugary carbonated drinks and stored fruit juices, which results in insulin spike in our body. Even if we consume such drinks, to clean them water is needed!!

Side effects of drinking less water:

We feel tired, skin becomes dry and loses elasticity, eyes dry up, kidneys cannot purify blood efficiently, we end up with constipation, headache, stomach ulcer, weight gain, body heat, joint pain, hunger pangs and premature ageing.

How to find out if we are consuming enough water? Check, if you have following symptoms?

  • Dry mouth
  • Less urine quantity with dark yellow color
  • Foul smell in urine, sweat, saliva and stools
  • Urinary tract infection, Chronic bad breath
Chewing gum, body sprays and room fresheners are temporary solutions. It’s like spraying deodorant around the dustbin without throwing the garbage out and washing it. Hence without drinking enough water cleansing the body is impossible.

So, how much water and how to drink? We shall know in my next post.

Best Wishes!!

    1. Yes that's true, corresponding to drinking water, in winter we go to loo more and I summer we sweat more. So output anyway will happen in either of the forms. Despite of drinking 4 liters systematically, if we still feel thirsty, drinking another 250 ml should not bother. But body is the best guide! It has to be experimented and seen. I drink around 4 liters 365 days, it has worked for me..

Cucumber and Sprouts Salad This is a wonderful salad and has been one of my breakfast items on many days from almost 10 years. This salad is rich in protein and very simple to make. This can be eaten as evening snack as well. I have mentioned its health benefits at the end of this post. Ingredients 1 small size cucumber 10 big fist green gram sprouts Freshly grated coconut 1 cup 1 small lemon Salt and pepper (optional) Method of preparation: Wash sprouts and soak in drinking water over night. Wash soaked green gram around 8 to 10 times to remove the smell and place it in the sprout box and leave it for 8 to 10 hours. Alternatively you can use cloth to tie the gram. This will also give out good sprouts. Keep grated raw coconut, lemon, cucumber and sprouts ready.   Wash cucumber well and grate it. You can even cut it into small pieces, but I prefer to grate it so t...

All about my Recipes..

I am blessed to be born in India with an endless taste for food. Except for non-vegetarian food I have tasted wide variety of food preparations which includes the styles of South India like Udupi, Mysore, Mandya, North Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and some of North Indian, few of Chinese and Italian too.. I used to have a great appetite 8 to 10 years back. With age it has diminished a bit, but still I appreciate and enjoy wide variety of preparations in smaller quantities.  I keep trying these styles of cooking on my husband. He is a very good critic when it comes to taste and I always tell my in-laws that if their son gives me a certificate, I don’t need from anyone!! Believe me it is not at all easy to get appreciation from my husband, he gets into minute details of taste and gives his judgement. It is making me a better cook day by day. I enjoy a lot, cooking wide variety of dishes for him because he enjoys eating good tasty food. Because of m...
