How much water to drink?

Before we go ahead and understand how much water to drink, I want to share with you how water helped me become healthier and maintain health to a greater extent.

I used to suffer from Chronic Constipation, Acidity and Psoriasis. Acidity was so worst that I used to drink Eno almost every day, sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. I had to eat everyday either Cucumber or Papaya during night to get some bowel movements in the morning. I also used to consume Safi for skin problem which also helped in bowel movements. But without any external support, clearing bowel was very difficult for me at that time.

Approximately in the year 2007 my parents told me about a Telugu TV program called “Mee Arogyam mee chetullone” which was telecasted in Maa TV, which means “Your health is in your hands”! Dr. Manthena Sathyanarayanaraju, a naturopath used to give talks on how to reverse health issues naturally. It was quite interesting and I started following his techniques and almost instantly got the results. It changed my state of body drastically; I started to experience real health! I felt so light and energetic. Constipation and acidity vanished! Skin became very clear, one shade lighter, soft and shiny! I am ever thankful to Dr. Manthena Sathyanarayanaraju.

Many of the techniques I share would be from Naturopathy background. Rather than talking too much science, I would like to share few techniques with real time experiences, which helped in rejuvenating mine and my family’s health.

There are different schools of thoughts propagating different ideas about quantity of water to be consumed in a day. Some say we must drink 2.5 liters since that much water goes out from our body every day. Few say we must not drink too much water it causes stress on kidney! (“Too much” needs to be defined) Few talk about demand and supply, meaning drink water when you feel thirsty. Recently I saw a hording in Fortis Hospital at Bangalore which said “drink 4 liters of water every day to protect your kidneys”. However, Dr. Manthena Satyanarayana Raju suggests with a logical explanation 4 liters for women and 5 liters for men. We can consider this quantity for both minimum and maximum water level. Since it was convincing, I started following it to check if it really works and it worked wonders!!!

Since we have been discussing cleansing here, I don’t want to say too much about benefits of water at this point in time. Let’s see how to clean our body by systematically by drinking water.

2 important ways help maintaining cleanliness in the body through water.

1. Timely flushing of waste and toxins from the body

  • Drinking 1 to 1.25 liters of water on empty stomach immediately after waking up.
  • Walking for about 10 minutes concentrating on the stomach.
  • Stomach filled with water brings pressure on the large intestine and creates bowel movements. T his will clear half of the waste from intestine.
  • Give a gap of 90 minutes and again drink 1 to 1.25 liters of water and walk for about 10 minutes. This will clear 2nd half of the waste from intestine. (If we don’t have time to drink water for the 2nd time in the morning, we can do it in the evening, but there has to be a gap of 4 hours after the meal so that the stomach will be empty.
Suggestion:

Above mentioned gap of 90 minutes can be used for doing Yoga or some form of physical exercise.

Caution:

  • Eating anything should be only after 30 to 45 minutes of drinking water for better digestion.
  • Giving 90 minutes gap to drink 2nd time water is crucial because if we drink 2.5 liters of water without any gap, its life threatening. One must never attempt this.
  • Because we drink more water, frequency and quantity of urine will also increase. Once you feel like emptying your bladder, please do it immediately, don’t hold the urine.
  • People who are not used to drink more water should start with just one glass (250 ml) and increase a glass every 4 to 7 days until you reach 1.25 liters. This will make you feel comfortable in your new habit.
2. Not collecting waste and toxins in the body
  • Drinking a glass of water (approximately 250 ml) before 30 minutes will help in releasing necessary digestive juice and keeps the stomach ready for digestion.
  • Drinking a glass or two after 2 hours of any meal.
  • After this keep drinking a glass every 30 to 40 minutes until the next meal.
  • Reduce water intake after 6 pm and don’t drink much water during bed time so that you don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to loo. This will allow our body to rest well and clear toxins which can be flushed out first in the morning.
Important Note:

Drinking water just before meal, in between the meal and immediately after the meal will interfere with digestion process and delays digestion. This will make food to decay in the stomach and release toxins in the body.

Caution:

Please keep a count of how much water you drink so that you don’t exceed maximum limit. (Women 4 liters and men 5 liters)

Hope this post was informative. If anyone is interested in trying this water therapy, please try and do share your experiences. Please feel free to ask questions, will try my best to answer or will try to get the answer from some experts.

Have a great time! Let’s meet in my next post. 😊

Cucumber and Sprouts Salad This is a wonderful salad and has been one of my breakfast items on many days from almost 10 years. This salad is rich in protein and very simple to make. This can be eaten as evening snack as well. I have mentioned its health benefits at the end of this post. Ingredients 1 small size cucumber 10 big fist green gram sprouts Freshly grated coconut 1 cup 1 small lemon Salt and pepper (optional) Method of preparation: Wash sprouts and soak in drinking water over night. Wash soaked green gram around 8 to 10 times to remove the smell and place it in the sprout box and leave it for 8 to 10 hours. Alternatively you can use cloth to tie the gram. This will also give out good sprouts. Keep grated raw coconut, lemon, cucumber and sprouts ready.   Wash cucumber well and grate it. You can even cut it into small pieces, but I prefer to grate it so t...

All about my Recipes..

I am blessed to be born in India with an endless taste for food. Except for non-vegetarian food I have tasted wide variety of food preparations which includes the styles of South India like Udupi, Mysore, Mandya, North Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and some of North Indian, few of Chinese and Italian too.. I used to have a great appetite 8 to 10 years back. With age it has diminished a bit, but still I appreciate and enjoy wide variety of preparations in smaller quantities.  I keep trying these styles of cooking on my husband. He is a very good critic when it comes to taste and I always tell my in-laws that if their son gives me a certificate, I don’t need from anyone!! Believe me it is not at all easy to get appreciation from my husband, he gets into minute details of taste and gives his judgement. It is making me a better cook day by day. I enjoy a lot, cooking wide variety of dishes for him because he enjoys eating good tasty food. Because of m...

Starting point to Well Being

Body Cleansing Hey Friends, Since this is my first ever post on the blog, I had too many thoughts like it should be attractive, useful, suite a wide variety of readers etc etc., choosing a topic was like picking the best pearl from an endless ocean! However, when we don’t know from where to start “we have to start from where we are and make it a starting point!!”  I am involved in cleaning work at home now, so I thought I can start with a topic, “Cleansing our Body”. Coincidentally, this would be the apt topic because before we decorate our house we have to first clean it! Same thing applies to the body. When it comes to cleansing, I have seen people usually talking about medicines and herbs like ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric, lemon etc., but often I feel a lot of us miss 2 important elements. Can you take a guess what are they? They are “Water” and “Air”!! Let’s first discuss how water helps in detoxification. No doubt herbs, juices help clean...
